dark spots, melasma - how they occur and how to get rid of them.
Each of us dreams of smooth, even skin tone with a healthy color and natural glow. However, the reality may sometimes be slightly different. Discoloration and dark spots on the skin are one of the main topics that appear in messages and enquiries to me. This problem mainly affects women, and there are many causes. The main one, however, is definitely the Sun! and the rest are: hormones, skin damage, medications taken, aging. How to deal with this problem?
What are the different types of discoloration:
large, irregular, dark spots are melasma. It most often appears in women aged 30-45 with slightly darker skin and after UV exposure. Pregnancy, hormonal drugs and some antibiotics may also trigger this type of skin codition.
small brown spots are age spots
spots formed in areas of skin damage (e.g. after acne, psoriasis or atopic dermatitis) are post-inflammatory discolorations
Pigmentation spots most often appear in women with slightly darker skin. Why?
In people with fair skin, melanin is present only in the deepest layer of the skin, while in people with darker skin - in all layers. During UV radiation, excess melanin in the outer layer leads to the formation of spots and discolorations.
The cause of skin discoloration (hyperpigmentation) may also be a deficiency of vitamins such as folic acid, vitamin PP, vitamin B3 (niacinamide), vitamin B5, vitamin A.
How to get rid of hyperpigmentation:
the best way is to prevent it. And the most effective method is effective sun protection
exfoliation - removes excess melanin in the top layer of the epidermis and facilitates the absorption of cosmetic ingredients. For this purpose, chemical peels and acid treatments are recommended. It is best to do them in autumn and winter.
using cosmetics with ingredients such as: vitamin C, vitamin E, licorice, retinoids, azelaic acid, phytic acid, niacinamide, raspberry seed oil, rosehip oil and moisturizing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid.
I also recommend home-made masks that will nourish the skin and gently lighten discolorations
honey + natural yogurt + a few drops of lemon juice + olive oil
blended avocado + a few drops of lemon juice
turmeric 2 tablespoons + cinnamon 1 tablespoon + olive oil + lemon juice + honey
blended tomato + olive oil
Also remember that well-moisturized, nourished and regenerated skin heals and soothes faster, so it is worth ensuring proper hydration, good sleep and cosmetics rich in vitamins and fatty acids.
