What is oxidative stress and how it can speed up your skin’s aging process?
Responsible for faster aging of the body, including the skin (wrinkles and lack of elasticity), fatigue, some diseases, problems with concentration, irritability and sleep problems.
What is it?
Oxidative stress is, in short, a state of disturbed balance between the influence of free radicals (reactive oxygen species, which are a natural effect of cellular metabolism) and the ability to remove them or repair the damage caused by them.
In ideal conditions, our body independently controls these processes and copes with the excess of free radicals, but due to some negative factors, imbalance, i.e. oxidative stress, is inevitable. These factors include:
air pollution
unhealthy diet and life style (smoking, alcohol)
excessive UV
long term stress and tiredness
Under the influence of oxidative stress, our skin loses its firmness, radiance, healthy appearance and colour, becomes dry and irritated.
Unfortunately, we cannot fully control these processes, but we can slow them down a bit. How to do it:
healthy lifestyle, sleep hygiene
avoiding stressful situations, try some relaxation techniques that really work
healthy diet full of antioxidants (fruits and veggies in various colours, nuts, green tea, garlic)
phyysical activity
skin care products full of antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E, beta carotene, coenzyme Q10, cold pressed oils full of vitamins, fatty acids, carotenoids)
